How To Simplify Your Worship for a More Meaningful Experience

Do you want to have an unrealistic worship experience—one in which God moves in unexpected ways? Learn how to simplify your worship for a more meaningful experience.
What is worship really?
The Oxford dictionary defines it as both a feeling and an act. It can be a feeling of reverence and adoration for God, as well as the act of showing reverence and adoration to God.
In this post, I’m referring to the act of showing reverence to God.
It’s my belief that we are not only to show our reverence to God but, because He loves us so much, we are to also expect Him to act on our behalf. In fact, I believe we are to have unrealistic expectations of God. The Bible backs me up on this,
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”
Ephesians 3:20
And then there’s,
Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.
Jeremiah 33:3
God invites us to expect great things from Him on our behalf. So why would we not take Him up on this wonderful offer?
Example of Unrealistic Expectations
There were some in the Bible who chose to believe in God against all odds. One was the woman with the “issue of blood” (Mark 5:25-34 ):
- She tried numerous other medical interventions and remedies but they all failed.
- She heard of Jesus and what he had done for others.
- Thinking, “I’m not worthy to talk to Him because I’m unclean,” she decided to get close enough to Him to just touch the hem of His garment.
- This desperate woman believed that He had enough power in His garment to heal her. She had no biblical precedent of this ever happening.
- She just kept encouraging herself with this thought and was rewarded: her faith made her whole.
Because of this woman’s faith-filled action of just touching Jesus’ garment for healing, in the next chapter of Mark, you read of people lining up to touch the hem of His garment (Mark 6:56). She opened up a new level of thinking and faith for many others because of her example.
And this type of response from God is available to us. He tells us in His word that nothing will be impossible for those who believe.
So does that mean that I can have whatever I want if I just believe He’ll give it to me? First, we need to understand the difference between unrealistic expectations and presumption.
Unrealistic Expectations v. Presumption
Requests that are not based on the whole word of God lead to presumption. We have to be careful not to get so caught up in what we want that we drown out God’s voice telling us what He will do.
It’s easy to get an idea in our minds and miss opportunities to see if it aligns with God’s word. Or we avoid praying about it altogether because we’re afraid God will not approve.
We have to bring our thoughts, ideas, and our unrealistic expectations to God on a regular basis. We need to ask Him, “Is this in line with Your will? Is this in line with Your word? And is this where You want me to be?
We need to constantly check in because we can have a good thing that’s not a God thing for us.
How to Simplify Your Worship and Expect Great Things
If you want to simplify your worship to where you’re having unrealistic expectations of God, here are the steps you can take to Command Your Mornings:
- Know God’s promises and rehearse them. Search the Scriptures for promises that relate to your needs or your requests to God. Write them down. Repeat them aloud throughout the day. Post them where you will see them often.
- Imagine God doing great things. Ask yourself, What’s the best that can happen? Pray and think over this question and journal your response. Write it as if it’s already been done, and base it on the promises in God’s word.
- Listen to God’s word. Whether through songs, sermons, or the Bible on audio, fill your mind with God’s word and His promises.
- Pray and fast for God’s power and blessings. End your session with a prayer for the power to do your part and for God to make up the difference.

Remember, heaven is open to your requests. Don’t set expectations way below what God wants to do in your life. Dare to ask for more.

Here’s a quote from the book:
“Too often we are taught to be more realistic. God has not called you to be realistic. You can’t be realistic and a person of faith at the same time. Realities are not meant to be accepted; God

wants them to be challenged and overthrown. Your life won’t change until you get unrealistic!”
